Lion House, Superbowl Party and Storm Troopers

This last weekend was total bliss.  Friday Zac and I got home from work and were oddly both craving Italian (on my way home from work I kept thinking, Breadsticks....) so we splurged and went to Buca di Beppo.  We may have ordered the same amount of food that the table next to us did that had 9 people.  #pregnancy

We also ordered the colossal brownie sundae that the table over did and it was the size of Zac's head.  It was SO GOOD.  We just kept looking at each other and laughing.  After leaving with leftovers for a week (and believe me, they are still around) we came home and both zonked out during the Jazz game.  At one point Zac and I were standing in the kitchen talking and Theo was running around our feet and Zac said, "I'm so happy.  I'm so happy with our family."  It's moments like that, I want to fold up and carry around in my pocket.

Saturday we had Zac's Grandma Ruth's 80th birthday party at the Lion House.  I had been looking forward to it all week because I love family parties and I love food.  Last time I was at the Lion House for a reception dinner, there wasn't enough food for everyone (too many showed up?) so out of politeness I left.  I was so bummed...all I got out of the dinner was a mint.  So, this time, I was psyched.

Grandma Ruth, Grandpa Cal, and Ruth's sisters and Brother-in-law
Sandy decorated the tables so cute with these fluff ball things and pictures of Ruth growing up for each of the grandchildren to take home.
There were these slips of paper on the table for you to write poems, and thinking it was just a time killer, Zac wrote this one out:
"Roses are Red, Violets are blue, Kellie has gas."  Yes, that is a pregnancy side effect no one talks about.  Rude.  And ofcourse, we had to go around and read these outloud.  Lololol
As I sat there during the slideshow and looking at the pictures of Ruth's life, as a little girl, then as a glowing bride, then with one baby, two, three, four, five...then with grandchildren and great grandchildren...it was really touching.  This life really is about family, and the 'circle of life' it creates is pret-ty cool.  Zac and I's wedding photo from a year ago popped up on the screen during the slideshow, us in the same glowing position Ruth and Cal were years ago, and it made me wonder what is in store for us.
Zac and his cousins sang a song for each decade of Ruth's life, and Annie played the ukulele for the girls to sing.  My offer to be a back-up dancer was declined, so I got to just be in the audience.
On our way home, driving downtown we saw a Stormtrooper.  God loves me.

Saturday we attempted to take Theo to City Creek again, and he totally loved it.  Total crowd-pleaser. But ofcourse, coming up the hill to our house, he threw up all over me again (last week was in my boot.)  I don't know how to make him a shopping dog.

That night we went to go to the Mandarin in Bountiful (Happy Chinese New Year!) with our friends Eric and Ashley and then I remembered my asian food aversion when we got home and wanted to die.

Saturday I got called as a Primary teacher and Zac as Elders Quorum Activities Chair.  Primary is every other week, so I can still hang out with the grown-ups and Zac half the time.  Phew.  After church, we rushed out of there like George Castanza in a fire and made our way to Stephanie's for a Superbowl Party.  Holy cow--Dave had made this whole Greek spread of lamb gyros, some leaf-wrapped lemon something, potatoes, rice, along with some great desserts.  The boys watched the game while we all chatted and then made our way over to the TV for the half-time show to watch my girl Beyonce.  Watching her made me never want to eat again.

Theo met Stella and Roxy for the first time...Theo got a little too excited to make friends and play and for the first time ever I heard Stella angry-bark.

We made bets on the Superbowl and I had no idea how the chart worked so I just wrote my name on some squares.

It was so fun to be with everyone and weird to think a year ago I came for the first time right before Zac and I got married.

In other news, my birthday is today! Zac proposed taking me to Bambara, but I am so hungry all the time and so...you're not going to believe this...I requested Chuckarama.  I know.  But it sounds so good.  Zac is passing the marriage test because even though I think he is grossed out he has agreed to it.

  2. Oh my goodness, I missed your birthday! I didn't really miss it though, because about a week ago Eric and I were talking about his students birthdays and I said, "I know one of them is on Feb.5, someone has a birthday on Feb.5 I know it!" But Eric couldn't think of anyone, and then I was like, "Wait! It's Kellie!!" Happy bday! And can you read The maze runner and review it for me :)

    2. Wow! A stormtrooper (one word or two???) in SLC!!! Do you remember when we were at Wendy's in Provo and we saw that guy driving a recliner on wheels down University Avenue and we were like, "What???"
