Restaurant Review: Kyoto

Kyoto Japanese on UrbanspoonSo, Zac and I have admittedly driven by Kyoto a million times and thought it was closed.  We usually are like magnets to any sort of Japanese restaurant establishment, but the exterior just always sort of dissuaded us.  Well, we found it on Urbanspoon ('it must be open!' we exclaimed) and figured we'd give it a shot.  Upon parking we realized the parking lot was full, the inside was covered with Japanese people...we knew we were in for something good.  And we were.  The service was so-so (they were slammed), but the curry with the katsu chicken cutlets was great (Zac said it tasted just like when he lived in Japan).  I ordered the bento box and probably wouldn't again--the sushi was fishy, the gyoza forgettable, but the shrimp tempura was great.  Despite the bento box, we are still excited to go back and get some more of that curry, shrimp tempura, and try their Udon.  Authentic atmosphere, teeming with genuine Japanese chefs and customers, it is definitely a go-to place if you're looking for some good Japanese food.

(4 out of 5 stars)
