We heard glowing reviews from Zac’s coworker, so we hurried
over to Zy for their last day of Dine Around.
I can’t say enough how impressed I was.
The service was the best I’ve seen in SLC---from the hostess to our
waiter to the busboy (if you could call him that in such a nice place.) Everyone was such a class act.
The food was great, too. We ordered their scallops over a pistachio puree,
as well as their fried oysters. The scallops
were so well-seared (the best I’ve had, and this is coming from a coastal girl). The pistachio puree was a little too bitter, but the fig sauce and mustard was oo-la la good. I appreciated the beautiful presentation and the unusual tastes.
The fried oysters were perfectly fried. Yum.
I ordered the mahi mahi as my main course—the couscous on it
was a little too heavy, but the fish was so perfectly cooked. Succulent. I'm not going to post the picture because it looks weird from my camera phone and will give you the wrong idea. Zac ordered the bbq pork ribs and the sauce…ohhhh
(sigh.) I ate more of his than mine, I
think.
For dessert we ordered the
chocolate cake (too rich, it played on just one heavy note) but we also ordered the goat
cheese, poached plums in the toffee sauce was DIVINE. I would return just for that dessert. Sorry there is no picture...we just kept 'ooohing' and 'ahhing' and there was no time for pictures. It was so well-rounded and had so much
depth. Mmm-hm.
The atmosphere was sleek---candles on the tables,
wood-paneling, a cool glow to the restaurant. (Look at all these posh people! ^ Definitely lots of eavesdropping of "Oh, in Europe..." "yes, in that business meeting..." We will definitely be going back.
(4.5 out of 5 stars)
Glad you enjoyed your experience! I agree re: the chocolate cake. But the apple pear crisp was perfect. Great review.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation! We loved Sapas and that Japanese noodle place, too :)
