Restaurant Review: Mandarin-Bountiful

Mandarin on Urbanspoon

Legit food with an old China atmosphere..now my favorite Chinese go-to place in Utah!

Let me tell you, I am picky with my Chinese food.  It's gotta be good. Because I've been there. I'm a quarter Chinese. And I know a couple other places in SLC that I could go to for authentic cuisine.

But this place belongs with the rest of them.  I loved the Old China interior--I felt like I was really there.  The service was great (albeit all American teenagers, but if I ignored that, I felt like I was on the Mainland.)

And even with the cool aesthetic aside, the food was fantastic.  We ordered the hand-made crab wontons with the lemon sauce (wow) and the mushu pork, their special black bean salmon dish, and their lemon chicken for our entrees.  I was in heaven.  We ordered a lot but the leftovers lasted us 5 days (yes, I ate it that long, that many days in a row.  Is that proof enough that this place is the bomb.com?)

This is now my favorite Chinese go-to place in Utah.  Worth the drive to Bountiful!

(4.5 out of 5 stars)

  3. You know whats really interesting about Chinese food, to me at least. Is how wildly varied it is. The difference between Cantonese, Mandarin and Hunan is surprising. I work for a company that recycles used cooking oil and services Grease Traps . Based on the amount of Oil in the run off you can see how widely varied the cooking styles are. Though many of the establishments become Americanized and just try to saturate everything in fat.
